Real Time or Freeze Time?

There are two ways to RNG, and both will get you a shiny:

Real Time (aka "Retail"): Play the game like normal and press A when a timer hits zero.
Freeze Time (aka "Emulator"): Pause the game and inch forward to your target, no rush.

You'll still see "Retail" and "Emulator" around the site. They're old names from where each method got its start, and we're slowly moving away from them.

Note

Both methods work on retail consoles and emulators! That's why they're bad names!

Not sure which to pick?

Here's a quick tip:

Real Time is great if you're playing on an unmodded console or like a little challenge.
Freeze Time is great if you want your shiny fast and don't mind a bit of setup.

There's no wrong choice, and you can always switch later. Pick whichever sounds more fun!
